About Melashdan White Dorper Stud

"First Choice :: Low Maintenance Ewes for Prime Lambs"

Melashdan White Dorper Stud WD537 is owned and operated by Gary and Janice Fiegert, cereal and sheep farmers in a 325mm rainfall district, north of Tumby Bay on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.

We specialise in the White Dorper breed, a self-replacing Meat Sheep that will lamb all year round and does not require shearing. They are our "First Choice, Low Maintenance Ewes for Prime Lamb" as these sheep thrive exceptionally well in pastoral areas of Australia, as well as on our pasture and stubble, or in feedlots.

With high fertility, early growth rate, outstanding dry feed conversion and high dressing out percentage without the need for shearing, mulesing or associated infrastructure, White Dorper is the obvious ideal choice.

The White Dorper was developed in South Africa from the Dorset Horn ram and the Blackhead Persian ewe in the 1930's. There was a need to breed a meat sheep that survived the harsh conditions, and produce a good quality carcase.

They were introduced into Australia in the mid 1990's and are now one of the fastest growing meat sheep breeds in Australia. Their low maintenance, adaptability and hardiness in a variety of climatic and grazing conditions have made them very popular with small land holders through to the large pastoral areas.
